regretting that he cannot engage myself to come to Newington at the time you mention. Your kindness & Mrs Brett's is a great temptation. But I expect to be called away to Oxford for a certain voting about that time & moreover, as you partly know it is not what I feel well up to, to take part in these gatherings, though I am sure I heartily wish them success. And I have declined many such invitations which had a sort of claim on me more or less, so that I hope you will excuse me this time. My wife thanks you & Mrs Brett with all her heart for your kind wish to see her.
