Thomas Adolphus Trollope was the author of more than 60 books. He lived most of his life in Italy. Anthony Trollope was his younger brother. Trollope married twice; his first wife was the writer Theodosia Garrow who was staying with his mother, Fanny Trollope in Florence. His second wife was the novelist Frances Eleanor Ternan. Her younger sister Ellen Ternan became the mistress of Charles Dickens and because of his intercession she was recommended as a prospective governess to the child of his widowed friend Thomas Trollope, following the death of his wife Theodosia. Ternan soon married him despite an age difference of 25 years.
