Background
During WWI the Maharajah commanded the Bikanir Camel Corps, which served in France, Egypt and Palestine. He was the only 'non-white' member of the Imperial War Cabinet.. Among his many achievements at home were the construction of the Ganges Canal, irrigation schemes to help avoid famine, a Chief Court of Justice, and schools and colleges, especially for women.
