Background
Alexander Graham Bell demonstrated his telephone to Queen Victoria with the UK's first publicly witnessed long-distance calls, placed from Osborne House on the Isle of Wight to London, Cowes and Southampton. The Queen was so impressed that she asked If there was no reason against it, to purchase the two instruments which are still here, with the wires, etc, attached.
