Background
The Figners were a husband-and-wife team of opera singers active in Russia between 1889 and 1904. The Queen of Spades is an opera in three acts by Tchaikovsky to a Russian libretto by the composer's brother Modest TCHAIKOVSKY, based on a novella of the same name by Alexander PUSHKIN, but with a dramatically altered plot. The premiere took place in 1890 in St. Petersburg at the Mariinsky Theatre.
