(1744-1818, of Mecklenburg Strelitz, Queen of George III)
Letter signed Charlotte to Madame
saying that a hint you gave last Thursday of intending to return next month to Scotland makes me fearful that you will but too soon put this intention into execution. Do not I pray you, my dear Dutchess think me vain when I flatter myself to persuade you of staying in this part of the world until Our Ball at Windsor after the thanksgiving is over where I wish to see your two amiable Daughters. I need not say any more but assure you that you will greatly oblige me by fulfilling my wishes..., 1 side 8vo., no place, no date
When Charlotte and George were first married St James's Palace was the official residence of the Royal couple, but The King had recently purchased a nearby property, Buckingham House. In 1762 The King and Queen moved into this new house, making it Buckingham Palace. Charlotte loved it - 14 of her children were born there and it came to be known as 'The Queen's House'.
