FORSTER

(Edward Morgan, 1879-1970, Novelist & Essayist, Author of 'A Passage to India')
Fine Autograph Letter Signed to Mrs Harvey,
thanking her for her letter and charming present... I don't know The Elm Grove, or that Lee Boo poem, and accept the book with much pleasure. I have several others of the type Anna Ross, Grove Cottage, and so on - mostly belonging to my mother, and I keep them in a little book case which belonged to her as a child. The Elm Grove will join them..., 2 sides 8vo., with original autograph envelope, King's College headed paper, 23rd October

Background
The poem by “Lee Boo”, perhaps means the great Chinese poet Li Po, the poem which Ezra Pound famously rendered as “The River-Merchant’s Wife: A Letter”. The three books that Forster mentions are all from the early nineteenth-century, and by women writers: The Elm Grove; or, The History of the Campbell Family, printed by the Minerva Press in London in 1816; Anna Ross: A Story for Children by the novelist Grace Kennedy (1782-1825), published in Edinburgh in 1824; and Grove Cottage, a book of fiction by Lucy Sarah Atkins Wilson (1801-1863), apparently published first in the 1820s by John Harris in London.
