Background
Sankey was a lawyer, judge, Labour politician and Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain, famous for many of his judgments in the House of Lords. He gave his name to the Sankey Declaration of the Rights of Man. He had remarkable influence, advocating nationalising the mines in 1919 while officially a Conservative, and fathering the Statute of Westminster, 1931, recognizing the equal sovereignty of the Dominions.
