Autograph Letter Signed by both to Dear George and Dorothy, the Marquess and Marchioness of CAMBRIDGE
(George Francis, 1895-1981, Prince George of Teck, nephew of George V and his wife Dorothy Hastings) thanking them for so very kindly and generously giving us a pair of braces [?] - it was so kind and thoughtful - as they say in 'showbiz' 'thank you for your support - I will always wear it. I hope you enjoyed the wedding as much as we did and did not get too wet. Aunt Alice seems on splendid form - for which we should thank you. I hope you are getting a bit more summer than there seems to be in London... with a postscript thanking them for the pans - I am sure the staff will find them frightfully useful..., 2 sides 8vo., with original autograph envelope, Kensington Palace headed paper, 6th August
Item Date: 1972
Background
On 8th July 1972, Prince Richard married Danish-born Birgitte van Deurs Henriksen at St Andrew's Church, Barnwell, Northamptonshire; the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester have three children. The letter is actually dated 6th July but postmarked August so the Duke must have mistaken the month.
