TRYON

(Sir George, 1832-1893, Vice-Admiral, Lost in the 'Victoria' in collision with the 'Camperdown' off Tripoli)
Fine Autograph letter marked 'Private' signed, to Capt SUCKLING
(Thomas, 1844-1922) telling him that the position of several of our chief officers & others in Coast Guard... is not well defined. I have sketched out something which I enclose. I propose Co. in Commd of Cruisers should bear the uniform of Ch.W.O. with the distinguishing marks of a Lieutenant, this gives them tail coat and frock coat... It is inexcusable that all should not be organised as to fit in when called to serve afloat, as it is, it is impossible. Please to give the subject your attention, freely criticise the draft I send and propose any plan that comes to you that you think is preferable..., 2 sides 8vo., Admiralty headed paper, 18th October
