As his performing career evolved, so did his medium: he began incorporating his own artwork and a comedic tone. In 1840, he composed a comedic opera titled Wanted, a Governess. Although this was his only opera, he composed dozens of songs throughout his career. His act that combined music and comedic monologues was popular throughout England.
