Background
Walsingham fought in World War I, where he was wounded three times and was mentioned in dispatches four times. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order in 1915. He gained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Royal Norfolk Regiment. He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire and was appointed Officer of the Order of Saint John and, later, served in World War II.
