Background
W. & D. Downey were Victorian studio photographers operating in London from the 1860s to the 1910s. Princess Louise, the eldest daughter of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, married Alexander Duff, 1st Earl of Fife, on 27th July 1889. He was eighteen years her senior but her third cousin in descent from George III.
