FOOT

(Hugh Mackintosh, Baron Caradon, 1907-1990, Colonial Administrator and Diplomat)
Excellent Long Autograph Letter Signed to Sir Michael STEWART
(1911-1994, KCMG, OBE, HM Ambassador to Greece and Minister at the British Embassy in Washington) thanking him for all your kindness to me in Ankara. I am afraid that I became a permanent diner-out at your house, and that I filled the rest of your days with Cyprus affairs, but how grateful I was to be able to turn to you at all hours for sustenance and sympathy and support. I return to-day from the terrors of Turkish Ministers to find everyone speaking of imminent EOKA activity. It is a hard life, but I shall remember my four days in Ankara as an unreal but exciting interlude. Most of all I was impressed to see how your team worked and specially I was full of admiration for your quickness and steadiness and understanding. I wish you had more promising material than the Cyprus problem..., 2 sides A4, Government House, Cyprus headed paper, no date but annotated
