Background
Arthur William Debenham (1845-1936), was a prominent portrait and marine photographer in Cowes and Ryde, Isle of Wight. They operated studios at various locations in both towns, including 72 High Street in Cowes and 28 Union Street in Ryde. He had a Royal appointment to H.M. Queen Mary and he was commissioned to photograph King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra on board the Royal Yacht Victoria and Albert off Cowes. An exceptionally rare image taken for Queen Victoria and collected in a Royal album from which it has been cut. Provenance: from a Royal collection.
