which is the 19th Regiment of Foot - known as the Yorkshire Regiment or the Green Howards before it was disbanded, carved all over with crowns, roses and thistles and cross hatching 5½ high and 3 across, no place, no date, circa
The 19th was a famous British Infantry Regiment and the only one with a VC on D Day to its credit. This item was clearly made as a souvenir for Mr Hendry when he was on some foreign station. He must have commissioned one of the locals to carve it for him.
