Autograph Letter Signed to Sir William
(Sir William TRELOAR, 1843-1923, Carpet Manufacturer, Philanthropist & Lord Mayor of London) thanking him for getting me out of a difficulty and shall try to repay your kindness in some way. I will send the [?] when I am a little better. I rather spoiled the last one by trying to alter the height of Mr Sheriff Beram but it not take me long to put it right..., 2 sides small 8vo., 15 Elm Tree Road crossed out, Devonshire Club, no date
Background
Sir William Purdie Treloar, 1st Baronet, was Lord Mayor of London, Founder of the Treloar College and School. As Alderman of the Ward of Faringdon Without he said that he represented 'the World, the Flesh and the Devil', i.e., Fleet Street, the home of the newspaper press; the Central Meat Market and the Temple. He established an active Cripples' Fund as his mayoral appeal. Sir William is famous for the Treloar hospital at Alton which he founded. Presumably the illegible word refers to some illustration he has done for Sir William.
