SALISBURY
(James Edward Hubert Gascoyne-Cecil, 4th Marquess, 1861-1947, Politician)
Autograph Letter Signed marked 'Private' to 'my dear NELSON'
(Horatio, 3rd Earl, 1823-1913, Politician) saying that As the most revered of all our members may I write to you to ask whether you would give us your support in an effort we are making to add to the portrait of Lord Selborne which the House of Laymen already possesses the picture of his successor Lord Ashcombe. This would seem, just as in the pictorial records of some ancient college, in accordance with the spirit of tradition which it may be hoped will gather round this assembly. If you should be willing to subscribe it would be of course of assistance to us on the first list of subscriptions, but you have I know such calls upon your generosity that I shall fully understand if you cannot help..., 3 sides 8vo., Hatfield House, Herts headed paper, 19th June
