Background
Queen Charlotte died on 17th November 1818 at the age of 74 while seated in an armchair at Dutch House in Surrey, now known as Kew Palace. Her eldest son, the Prince Regent, was present, holding her hand. She was buried in the Royal Vault at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle on 2nd December. Her husband died just over a year later. She is the longest-serving female consort and second-longest-serving consort in British history.Prince FREDERICK, Duke of York and Albany (1763-1827) was the second son of George III Queen Charlotte. A soldier by profession, from 1764 to 1803 he was Prince-Bishop of Osnabrück in the Holy Roman Empire. From the death of his father in 1820 until his own death in 1827, he was the heir presumptive to his elder brother, George IV.Provenance: From a small collection of locks of Royal Hair.
