Background
John Brigden was the Mayor of Brighton in 1874. He holds the distinction of being the only person to serve as the Mayor of Brighton four times, serving consecutive terms in 1863, 1864, 1873, and 1874. He was a local coach builder.The 19th Annual Congress of the National Association for the Promotion of Social Science was held in Brighton in October 1875. It focused on key social issues, including education, public health, and economy, featuring discussions on hardy annual topics like compulsory disease notification.
