saying that he fancied that I had paid for the photographs, but I am by no means able to say that I did so, with any certainty. No doubt the account would have been scratched off your book, if it had been paid. I therefore enclose the amount..., 1 side 8vo., Villino Trollope headed paper, no date
Background
Trollope married twice: his first wife was the writer Theodosia Garrow who was staying with his mother, Fanny Trollope, in Florence. The couple had one daughter, Beatrice. They lived at the Villino Trollope on the square that was then called the Piazza Maria Antonio, now the Piazza dell'Indipendenza, in Florence. Their house was decorated with carved furniture, inlaid walls, majolica ceramics, marble floors and pillars, suits of armour and a 5,000-book library. The recipient is probably the American photographer and sculptor Longworth POWERS (1835-1904) who worked in Florence in the mid 19th century. He was the eldest son of Hiram POWERS.
