AIRY

(Sir George Biddell, 1801-1892, Astronomer Royal 1835-1881)
Autograph Letter Signed to Dr PAGET
(Sir George Edward, 1809-1892, Fellow of Caius, from 1872 Regius Professor of Physic) taking the liberty of sending my oldest son Wilfrid Airy to you, and of asking whether it is in your power to assist him in obtaining an object which he seems much to desire, namely a sight of some of the surgical operations which are occasionally performed at Addenbrooke's Hospital. The thing may be objectionable altogether in which case I beg you not to trouble yourself to notice this letter in any way. But if it is permissible, perhaps the easiest way of effecting it would be to put my son in communication with the resident House Surgeon of the Hospital..., 3 sides 8vo., Royal Observatory, Greenwich, 4th February

Background
Airy completely re-equipped Greenwich observatory with instruments that he designed himself. Paget entered St. Bartholomew's Hospital to study medicine in 1832. In 1839 he became physician to Addenbrooke's Hospital, a post he held for 45 years; and in the same year he was elected a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. He resided in Caius College, was its bursar, and gradually went into practice as a physician
