Background
The recipient must be Emily Gwendolen Peers-Williams (1839–1932), second daughter of Col. Thomas Peers Williams MP, of Temple House and the former Emily Bacon (daughter of Anthony Bushby Bacon of Benham Park). In 1863 she married Lieutenant Colonel William Henry Wellesley, 2nd Earl Cowley (1834-1895). They married in 1863. Beatrice had the role of Companion to her mother Queen Victoria from the time of Prince Albert's death in 1861. This letter illustrates that duty.
