Lilian Lida Bell, 1863-1929, born in Chicago, brought out her first novel, 'Love Affairs of an Old Maid', in 1893, and in her second, 'A Little Sister in the Wilderness', 1895, dedicated to Lorimer, my gentlest critic and most indulgent friend, the American press notices of the first are unboundedly enthusiastic, lively - witty - natural and easy. They were published in London by Sampson Low and are full of vivacious charm.
