Background
The Commons Journals describe how on the 26th November, Jones first denied to the Committee that he knew anything relating to the Matter... but, being confronted, did very much trifle with the said Committee; and prevaricated in delivering his evidence, and was accordingly committed to the Sergeant-at-Arms. His petition was received and read on 9th December, but left on the Table. Repeating his petition on the 23rd December, Jones was brought before the Speaker, reprimanded, and discharged by order of the House, after paying his fees.
