SOPHIA
(1777-1848, Princess, Daughter of George III)
Autograph Letter Signed to Lady Leighton, in Weymouth Street,
apologizing for sending so shabby a parcel for the dear Monte & nothing but... the knowledge... that the very trifling offer of a few Rusks safely conveyed will prove that our beloved friend ever lives in my thoughts & breast could have induced me to ask such a favor - and my Servant considers it best to carry them, if on returning to Town she renews her visits, You will with great justice I hope be tempted to own the old Proverb of L'appetit vient en mangeant... Let me know soon of the safe arrival of a healthy Grand Son, with a P.S. sending her regrets to 'Monte' [in Bath] at not seeing him this year ! A heavy disappointment indeed, address on third side marked With Rusks, 2 sides 16mo., no place, 2nd October, n.y., c.
