Background
A very unusual photo as Princess Marie Louise and her husband Prince Aribert were rarely photographed together and the Prince was caught in a compromising position with another man. After that incident Queen Victoria sent an open telegram requesting that her grand-daughter come home to her. From 1891-1900 the Princess was Princess Aribert of Anhalt, but the marriage was dissolved to suit a new family law of that house. In 1917 she gave up her German titles and took the style of Princess Marie Louise. Apparently taken near Portsmouth. Attached to the back, with the identifications, is a note walked home from Eastney (home of the Royal Marine Artillery) with Papa. Richard came up at 5 o'clock from the Resolution for 5 minutes.
