Background
Mary Scott-Siddons toured the U.S.A. in 1868, and the U.S.A. and Australia in 1872-1879. She was manager of the Haymarket Theatre in 1881. She was born in Bengal, where her father William Young Siddons, (son of Henry, and grandson of the great Mrs Siddons), was in the army. In 1862 she married Thomas Scott Chanter, R.N. and in her later years added 'Scott' to her maiden name.
