Background
Lady Bancroft was a child actress in the provinces, and came to the Strand Theatre, London, in 1856. She married (Sir) Squire Bancroft in 1867, after which she joined his memorable management of the old Prince of Wales Theatre. She wrote 'Mr and Mrs Bancroft on and off the Stage', 1888.
