Magnificent silk programme for the Gala Performance
by the Royal Ballet, directed by Ninette de Valois and Frederick Ashton, in honour of his and Madame de Gaulle's visit, including Coppelia, Act I (scenery and costumes by Osbert Lancaster), Mam'zelle Angot, (choreographed by Massine), two pas-de deux by Petipa, one danced by Svetlana Beriosova and Donald Macleary, the other by Margot Fonteyn and Michael Soames, and Ravel's La Valse, choreographed by Ashton, printed in red, white, blue and black by William Clowes on British silk with a silk tasselled border, 22¼ x 11½, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, 7th April
