Background
It is said that Charlotte was the only one in her family who chose her own spouse, Bernhard III of Saxe-Meiningen. Sadly, Charlotte inherited the royal porphyria and this may have caused her later erratic behaviour and her contretemps with her brother, Kaiser Wilhelm II.
