Background
A note signed by Mary Hebden on the verso explains that they received the letter in 1867 when we were in Villa Cedro Sardegna and she was at Caprera. The Massy's were there on a visit.Caprera is a small rocky island in the strait of Bonifacio off the northern tip of Sardinia. It was the much loved home of Garibaldi from 1854, and he was buried behind the house. In 1885 the island was bought by the Italian government.
