Autograph letter signed to 'My dear Sir',
saying The Centaur will go tomorrow morning to embark the Crew, and bring them round to Naples to their own ship the 'Cagliari' , in which they will set out for Genoa as soon as the Engines are completely in order... Captain Sitzea will have command of the Ship - but she will be under the charge of Mr Barber, who will deliver her to the Sardinian officials at Genoa... the Engines have not been in motion for nearly a year... I am appointed Minister at Florence, 4 sides 7 x 4½, Hotel Vittoria, 17th June

Background
Written the year before Leopold II of Tuscany was deposed in the struggle for Italian unity. Lyons had been Secretary at the Legation in Florence, and had just been appointed Minister. He went on to Washington, 1859-1864, where he negotiated over the arrest of the Confederate envoys on board the Brtitish Mail steamer 'Trent'.
