(1809-1878, first Bishop of New Zealand, 1841, from 1867 Bishop of Lichfield), referring to the interest I feel in the neighbourhood of Eckington, and asking for any suggestion he can communicate to Lady Schick, We hope to return to Addington nr Croydon tomorrow... on my way back from Scotland, pretty well thank God, he supposes your Lordship will soon be on yr route to America. Item Date: 1874
Background
As Bishop of London, Tait had vastly opened up the scope of missionary work there, preaching in the open air in dockland, bus depots, railway stations and at Covent Garden, and he had a natural sympathy with Selwyn's work in New Zealand. Behind his comment pretty well lies the recurrent ill-health against which he fought all his life.
