Background
The couple were fellow students at Bonn. By marrying Dorothea, Prince Wilhelm renounced his rights as eldest son. At this date the ex-Kaiser still hoped for a Hohenzollern restoration, and disapproved of any spouse that was not a thoroughbred. Prince Wilhelm died early in the war in Belgium.
