Horsford, commissioned into the Rifle Brigade, served in the Cape, 1847, the 8th Xhosa War, 1852, and the Crimea, and commanded the 6th Brigade at the capture of Lucknow, 1858. This letter was written while he was a Brigade Commander at Aldershot, 1866-1869.
