Background
The armour-plated battle cruiser 'Vérité' (1908-1921), of the 'République' class, was laid down in 1903 at Bordeaux, was launched in 1907 and completed its trials in June 1908. Early in WWI she helped destroy the Austrian cruiser 'Zenta', and then served in the Dardanelles, the Ionian Sea and Greece.
