Background
White Lodge had been prepared for the young Duke and Duchess of York, but it was cold and too large to maintain on their income, and Richmond Park was inconvenient for their many public engagements. After Curzon House they leased 40 Grosvenor Square, moved to the Duchess's parents' home at 17 Bruton Street, and finally settled in 1926 at 145 Piccadilly.
