Background
An old pencilled note on the verso remarks that the photo is 'pirated', Mayall's name and the date having been removed from the image. John Jabez Edwin Paisley MAYALL (1813 -1901) was an English photographer who in 1860 took the first carte-de-visite photographs of Queen Victoria.
