Background
Bellasis and his three brothers had joined their father, Major-General John Bellasis, in Bombay, in 1801, where George met and made a favourable impression on Sir Arthur Wellesley, later the Duke of Wellington. However, illness forced him home, and on the way he spent eight months on St. Helena from November 1804 to recover his health. He also revisited the island in 1812. In November 1815 he published, with an Introduction, 6 of his drawings, which had suddenly become of great interest owing to the decision to exile Napoleon there, dedicated to the Duke. This is No. 4, uncoloured.
