Background
The Colliers of Horrabridge, 4 miles SE of Tavistock, were well known farmers. There is a fine picture in Plymouth Art Gallery of Mrs Mortimer Collier and her family, and in 1888 Baring-Gould took down 'Widecombe Fair' from W.F. Collier, of Woodtown, Horrabridge, a near relation.
