Background
One of the last portraits to be taken before he died on 14th December. On the verso is Mayall's (later) advertisement for their Electric Light Studios for Instantaneous Photography at 90 & 91 Kings Road, Brighton, an attractive layout with strong lettering, a star and its rays. John Jabez Edwin Paisley MAYALL (1813 -1901) was an English photographer who in 1860 took the first carte-de-visite photographs of Queen Victoria.
