Fine Engraving of 'La Gouvernante' ('the Governess')
reversed from his original oil painting of 1738, (now at the National Gallery, Ottawa, there is also an apparently autograph replica at Tatton Park), showing her seated full length in profile, her work basket by her side, breaking off from brushing the tricorne of the young son of the house and apparently gently remonstrating with him, he holds a parcel of books under his right arm but lying on the floor are his shuttlecock, racquet and playing cards, 12½ x 9¾ in margins 20¾ x 15½ on fine paper, this engraving no place, no date, 18th - 19th century
