Background
For 50 years Jean and his brother Jérôme Tharaud (1874-1953) wrote 'à quatre mains', always signing jointly the works they based on their travels in North Africa, the Middle East and Iran. The Académie Française was unable to elect the two together, so the elder received his chair in 1938 and Jean in 1946. Jean's hand, as here, is more upright and rounded than Jérôme's.
(Translation) 7 Rue Théophile Gautier, Neuilly-sur-Seine. 26th March 1923. Dear Monsieur, Again, thank you for your kindness! The 'Morocco' ['Le Maroc'] you talk about in your letter is not a new work, it is an anthology of pages taken from 'Rabat' and 'Marrakech'. With cordial greetings, Tharaud
