KNOX
(Sir Charles Edmond Knox, 1846-1938, Lieutenant-General)
Autograph Letter Signed to Major Brett,
saying that if Gentleman Cadets Holland & Sherrard are late, it is entirely my fault as they have been having supper with me..., 2 sides 8vo, Tidworth House, Andover, 21st June
Item Date: 1903
Background
In the recent South African War, Knox had commanded the 13th Infantry Brigade and on one occasion chased General De Wet for 800 miles, though without success. The present letter reflects his nickname 'Nice Knox' and his concern for those under him.
