Autograph Letter Signed to 'My Lord',
saying the times mentioned in Your Lordship's letter of yesterday for the manoeuvres of the Regiments of the City of London will perfectly suit me. As on one of those days however (the 3rd of November) there are two or three other Corps of the W[est] End of the Town to be exercised in Hyde Park, Harrington suggests that the two City Regiments should either join them, or that they should fix another day when I can see them alone, adding that This proposal of mixing the Corps from the different parts of the Town is of course merely an expedient for the day, 2 sides 4to, Stable Yard, 29th October

Background
Lord Harrington was aide-de-camp to Burgoyne at Saratoga, the news of which he brought home. At the time of this letter he was second in command of the London staff (July 1803), under the Duke of Gloucester. Later he was entrusted with missions to Berlin and Vienna, and was C-in-C, Ireland, 1805-1812. The rupture of the Peace of Amiens (1802-1803), Napoleon's camp at Boulogne (1803-1805) and the resulting invasion scare, led to more and more home-based and militia regiments being mobilised for service.
