BATTENBERG

(Prince Louis, 1854-1921, 1st Marquess of Milford Haven, Admiral, assumed the surname Mountbatten in 1917)
Fine Autograph Letter Signed 'Louis Battenberg' to Lord Aberdeen,
(John Campbell Gordon, 1847-1934, from 1870 7th Earl, from 1916 1st Marquess, twice Lord Lieutenant of Ireland), desiring before leaving your hospitable waters... to express... my warmest thanks for your kind reception of, both, the Commander in Chief of the Fleet based in Ireland, and of the humble individual who has [the] honour of filling that important appointment, his charming recollections of the Vice-Regal Lodge are only marred by the feeling that Lady Aberdeen (Ishbel, 1857-1939), greatly aggravated her indisposition by that same devotion to her duty as my hostess, which has ever characterised her attitude towards that other duty toward suffering humanity, which so many of us neglect, and hoping to entertain Your Excellencies on board my Flagship on... my next visit, Admiral's flag and 'LB' in red, 2 sides 4to, HMS Prince of Wales, Atlantic Fleet, off Kingstown, Ireland, 11th November
